Anyway, practical, rule-following child that she is, she wanted to make the recipe that included football shaped bowls in the picture. A snack mix with nuts. I don't even know if she really likes nuts all that much, but it was obvious to her that this was the perfect recipe.
Well, guess what? Huge hit. Phenomenal recipe. We will be making this again, and again.
Super Bowl Snack Mix
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 t chili powder
1/2 t salt
1/2 t curry powder
1/2 t five-spice powder
1 1/2 cups raw almonds
1 cup dried cherries
1 cup shelled raw pistachio nuts
1 egg white
Preheat oven to 250.
Combine brown sugar, chili powder, salt, curry powder and five-spice powder in medium bowl; stir well. Add almonds, cherries and pistachios; mix well.
Whisk egg white in large bowl until frothy. Add almond mixture; toss to combine.
Spread mixture evenly onto nonstick baking sheet. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let mixture cool 30 minutes or until coating is firm. Break into small chunks. Store mix in airtight container.
We could not find 5 spice powder at the store so we googled and used this recipe. I also could not find the anise in this recipe so we left it out and it still turned out very well.
